Working with Children

I work with an increasing number of children and am always amazed at their openness and honesty. It is a pleasure to work with children and see how willingly they engage in the process and use their wonderful imaginations.

A recurring theme seems to be anxiety, stress and fear, which manifests as early as 6 years old. I commend parents wholeheartedly for recognising their child's distress and deciding to seek some help for them.

If not helped at this age the issue can remain and cause problems throughout their lives.

A significant emotional event in the child's life can remain as a memory and the brain then constantly looks for pattern matches.

If it finds something familiar it alerts the child that this may be dangerous and creates symptoms of anxiety, such as a fast beating heart, shaking, tension and sends adrenalin running round the body .

The brain believes it is protecting the child , by constantly looking out for familiar events.

Some examples of emotional events are being chased by a dog, being violently sick, witnessing an accident,  a death of a pet, being taken to hospital, parents arguing and many many more. The child cannot always remember the trigger but this does not matter.

During therapy sessions I use a variety of interventions to reframe the trauma and help the brain to realise it no longer needs to protect the child . The process can work amazingly quickly leaving the child anxiety free. What a wonderful thing to do for a child, to prevent the fear disabling them for the rest of their lives.

If your child is suffering from anxiety or fear, give me a call or email me to discuss whether I can help.

Held back by limiting beliefs?

How many of us are held back by limiting beliefs? This is a moving and emotional talk about how its possible to be free from restrictions. What stories are you telling yourself about what you can and cant do? Or have you listened and believed what others have said about your potential? Anything is possible if you allow yourself to change your story.

As I walked out the door...

I love this quotation from Nelson Mandela, but it can be easier said than done. Many of us are still living in prison as we find it hard to let go of painful events and limiting beliefs connected to them.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help to release negative energy surrounding events and change the way we perceive things. Which means we no longer need past events to effect the way we behave and feel in the now, We can leave it all behind and be free.

New Testimonial

" I became a non-smoker with Nikki's help on 2nd October 2015 and I cant believe its now the 4th November. It feels like I haven't smoked in a long time and I do not miss it one bit. All good so far. It's an amazing feeling and has reduced my stress levels. I'm certainly enjoying my life so much more than when I was planning my next nicotine hit!" Louise (Nov 2015)

Anxiety

I have noticed lately how many clients are coming to see me with anxiety related issues and finding themselves unable to stop worrying. They range from young children through to people in their 70s, both male and female. Its interesting to see peoples reactions when I point out how little time they are spending in the present moment. They are either dwelling on the past or worrying about the future and spending little time enjoying the "now".  Simply beginning to believe that worry doesn't change anything can have an enormous positive effect. The outcome will be the same whether we worry about it or not. Some clients also carry a limiting belief which says " If I don't worry it means I don't care "  But what if that wasnt true? How liberating would that be?  Relaxation techniques and visualisations can also help greatly. Practise a new mantra today
Worry doesn't change anything"
Imagine how different your life could be . How peaceful and calm.
